How to download an Instagram Reel
- 01Open the Reel in the Instagram app or on instagram.com.
- 02Tap the paper-plane Share icon, then Copy link. On desktop, copy the address from the browser bar — it looks like instagram.com/reel/…
- 03Paste the link into the box above and press Download. The Reel appears in the preview frame.
- 04Press Save video. The file downloads with the audio that Instagram provides for that Reel.
Why save a Reel as a file
A screen recording catches notifications, the Instagram interface and often loses quality. Downloading the Reel gives you the actual video file Instagram serves, so it plays cleanly in your gallery, in a video editor or offline on a flight.
Creators use this to keep backups of their own Reels, editors use it to collect footage clients have approved, and teachers use it to show a clip in class without relying on Wi-Fi.
Which Reels work
Any Reel posted by a public account should work. Reels from private accounts cannot be fetched, because IGvide never logs in to Instagram on your behalf. If a Reel was deleted, archived or restricted by region, the link will return an error.
Links copied from the app sometimes include extra tracking text after a question mark. That's fine — IGvide reads the Reel ID and ignores the rest.
When a Reel link doesn't work
Check that the account is public and the Reel still opens in a private browser window. If it does and IGvide still shows an error, wait a minute and try again — the download service can be briefly busy. Story links and profile links are not Reel links and won't work here.
