How to Save Instagram Reels on iPhone Without an App
You don't need to install anything. Safari can download a public Reel straight to your iPhone, and from there it's one tap to put it in your camera roll. Try it with the box below.
Save a Reel to your iPhone camera roll
- 01In the Instagram app, open the Reel, tap the paper-plane icon and choose Copy link.
- 02Open this page in Safari, tap Paste, then Download. The Reel loads in the preview frame.
- 03Tap Save video. Safari asks whether to download the file — tap Download. A blue arrow appears in the address bar.
- 04Tap the arrow, open the video, then tap the Share icon and choose Save Video. It now appears in Photos with its audio.
Where the file goes on iPhone
Safari stores downloads in the Files app, in the Downloads folder on iCloud Drive or On My iPhone. You can change the location in Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads. Moving the video into Photos is optional, but makes it easy to share or edit later.
Using Chrome on iPhone
Chrome on iPhone works too. After tapping Save video, choose Open in… or Download, then use the Share sheet to save the video to Photos. If the video only plays instead of downloading, tap the Share icon on the player and pick Save Video.
Fixes for common iPhone problems
If Paste does nothing, iOS may be blocking clipboard access — long-press the input and choose Paste instead. If the video saves without sound, check the mute switch and volume first; some licensed songs are removed by Instagram in certain regions. If the Reel won't load at all, make sure it's from a public account.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an app to save Instagram Reels on iPhone?
No. Safari can download the Reel and you can save it to Photos from the Files app or the Share sheet.
Why does the Reel open in Files instead of Photos?
Safari saves downloads to Files. Open the video and tap Share → Save Video to move it to Photos.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes. The steps are the same in Safari on iPad.
Does Instagram notify the creator when I save a Reel?
IGvide doesn't use your Instagram account, so nothing is sent from your profile.
Download responsibly
IGvide only works with public posts and never asks for your Instagram login. Save only content you own or have permission to use — re-uploading someone else's work breaks our terms of service.
